Life Science

Uniquely positioned for growth

Life sciences is one of Helsingborg’s most internationally competitive growth areas. The city’s strength lies in the combination of long-standing industrial expertise, clinically-oriented research and direct access to global markets.

Established operations in pharmaceuticals, medical technology and diagnostics are complemented by new settings where healthcare, technology and production come together.

Regional collaboration and development

Helsingborg is part of Medicon Valley, one of Europe’s leading life science clusters, through its close links with Lund University and the wider regional ecosystem.

A growing local presence in the sector further strengthens this position. The city complements the research-intensive environments in Lund and Copenhagen with industrial capacity, advanced production, public-sector testbeds and international logistics.

This shortens the path from research to commercialisation and gives companies the ability to scale globally.

Established and expanding infrastructure

Across the Familjen Helsingborg area, around 60 life science companies employ approximately 1,800 people, with exports accounting for around 65%—the highest share among the city’s key sectors.

Close proximity between established industry, Helsingborg Hospital and Lund University enables clinically relevant collaboration in areas such as cardiology, neurology, diagnostics and digital health. Planned development linked to the new hospital site at Östra Ramlösa will create further opportunities for cluster growth and patient-centred research.

Helsingborg Innovation District also strengthens the city’s position in health tech, AI and data-driven healthcare, particularly for scale-ups.

Overall, Helsingborg offers a life sciences environment where industry, clinical practice and innovation come together, with clear opportunities for companies to establish, expand and grow internationally.
