Regional & International Collaboration

Part of a bigger whole

Strategically located in the Öresund region, Helsingborg plays a key role in several strong partnerships that connect cities, regions and countries. These collaborations open access to a larger labour market, strengthen the business community and drive innovation and sustainable growth. For companies, this means close access to talent and new markets in a well-connected, growing region.

Helsingborg is part of Familjen Helsingborg, a collaboration between several municipalities in north-west Skåne, as well as Greater Copenhagen and STRING—partnerships that connect the Nordics and northern Europe through strong cross-border networks.

Familjen helsingborg

Through the Familjen Helsingborg partnership, eleven municipalities in north-west Skåne have come together around joint initiatives in business and community development, talent supply, and innovation. The region includes more than 350,000 residents and over 35,000 registered businesses, making it one of Sweden’s most business-dense areas.

For companies, this means a larger local market, stronger networks and the opportunity to grow in a connected region where collaboration is part of everyday business.

Greater Copenhagen

Helsingborg is part of Skåne, one of the EU’s most innovative regions and a key driver of the Swedish economy. The region accounts for around 12% of Sweden’s GDP, has over 1.4 million residents, and a business community with a strong export focus. Skåne’s strengths in life sciences, tech, food, sustainable cities and advanced materials mirror several of the sectors where Helsingborg already holds strong positions.

Through Greater Copenhagen, businesses in Helsingborg gain access to the Nordics’ largest integrated labour market, with around 4.4 million people. More than 22,500 people commute across the Öresund each day, creating a truly cross-border region. For businesses, this means access to the talent, markets and infrastructure of two countries.

String

Helsingborg is also part of STRING, a cross-border megaregion stretching from Hamburg in the south to Oslo in the north. The region includes around 14 million people and focuses on green growth, sustainable infrastructure and international competitiveness. The OECD has identified the area as a potential global hub for green technology exports.

For businesses in Helsingborg, this means access to new markets, strong political coordination and increased opportunities in logistics, industry and sustainable technology. A key development within STRING is the upcoming Fehmarn Belt link, which will further strengthen connections across Northern Europe
