A Rich Community Life for Everyone
Moving to a new city is about more than finding the right home or the best view of the Øresund. It’s about feeling at home. About finding connections, people, and places where everyday life becomes meaningful. In Helsingborg, community life plays a vital role in exactly that.
Here, we believe in the power of togetherness – that strong associations build strong communities. From the coach who spends their free time helping children and young people grow, to the elite athlete pushing beyond their limits – community life creates both quality of life and belief in the future.
Helsingborg offers a broad and vibrant association life with more than 1,000 clubs and organizations – from classic football clubs, gymnastics and swimming associations to rhododendron societies, cultural organizations, and international communities. Whether you are looking for movement, connection, or a new passion, there is something for you.
Through the service Find My Association, more than 500 clubs and organizations are gathered in one place, making it the perfect starting point to find the right fit. Here, you can read about each association’s activities, where they are located, and what opportunities are available for people with disabilities.
The beauty of community life in Helsingborg is that it is always close by. Whether you live in the city centre, by the coast, or out in the countryside, there are clubs and communities ready to welcome you.
Whether you are looking for elite sports, a new hobby, a social network, or a place where your children can grow and thrive – you will find it here.
From Grassroots to Elite
Helsingborg is a city where both grassroots participation and elite performance have room to thrive. Strong clubs can be found in for example football, handball, gymnastics, martial arts, and swimming – environments that have nurtured both everyday exercisers and top-level athletes.
Golfer Linn Grant is one of several international profiles with roots in Helsingborg. Football icon Henrik Larsson is another – one of the city’s most well-known sports figures of all time. World champion swimmer Louise Hansson also shows the strength of the city’s sporting environment.
The conditions continue to improve as well. Helsingborg is investing in modern sports facilities, and by 2030, a brand-new swimming centre will be completed in Oceanhamnen, creating even better opportunities for the city’s strong swimming clubs.
The city also offers excellent opportunities for young sports talents through Helsingborg’s sports upper secondary school at Filbornaskolan. Here, students can combine their high school studies with elite sports development through the National Sports Program (RIG) in golf and swimming, as well as the National Approved Sports Education (NIU) in football, handball, basketball, tennis, and swimming. Both RIG and NIU are studied over four years to provide the best possible conditions for success in both academics and sport.
Volunteering That Creates Friendship
Community life is not only about taking part – it is also about contributing. Many people find their place through volunteer roles in different clubs, associations, and events. Helping out at tournaments, events, matches, or cultural activities often becomes the start of new friendships, valuable networks, and a stronger sense of belonging.
For many newcomers to the city, community life becomes a natural way into Helsingborg – a way to quickly get to know both people and the place itself. The City of Helsingborg continuously updates information about current volunteer opportunities and different ways to get involved, making it easy to find a role that suits you.
Here, You Become Part of Something Bigger
In Helsingborg, community life is everywhere – at the sports field, in the clubhouse, on the dance floor, in the scout cabin, and around the volunteer table at the next big event.
This is where many people find their sense of belonging.
